STEAMpunks offers middle and high schoolers a compreehensive supplemental math, science and engineering education. We continue where school lets out, providing learning opportunities that extend in-school fundamentals in the following key ways:
The core of our approach to teaching STEM topics is to integrate disciplines. By developing solutions to engineering challenges through all of the vertical stages -- conceptualization, needs, requirements, and market position assessment, design, prototyping, logic integration, testing, iteration, patenting, production, and marketing -- our students learn to think not only as engineers, but as solutions developers.
Instead of teaching technical skills -- like software programming, 3D printing, and electronic circuit design -- through arbitrary examples and tasks, our students learn in the course of developing actual, useful, unique, and forward-thinking research, products, and solutions. The product of every STEAMpunks class serves one single, collective project at a time, giving every student a clear sense of role, import, purpose, ownership, inclusion, responsibility, and common aim.
We do not teach at children. We collaborate with our students, showing them how to better seek their own solutions. We do not lean on the content of books, videos or other instructional aids to convey concepts to students, instead having them use equipment, tools and materials to build and test functioning products. Our aim is to have students learn to surmount the unique challenges of converting abstract thinking and conceptualization into real-world solutions.
Given their ages, our students will not only be focused on their activities at STEAMpunks. These years are filled with challenging high school entrance exams, state-mandated exams, and classroom exams. The costs of tutors and test prep classes can add up, and usually require research and travel planning. We offer stellar, competitive, results-driven SHSAT Math and ELA test prep, Regents test prep, and tutoring in the maths and sciences, so that all of your child's supplemental educational support is provided under one roof, with classmates and teachers your kids already know and trust. Our students learn as a team, study as a team, test as a team, and succeed as a team.

One of the major rationales for offering a fully vertical science and engineering program is to help students discover the track in the sciences they most want to pursue. We have built close rlationships with NYC's most respected STEM programs at both the high school and cellege levels, and work with our students to help them identify and apply to their ideal school programs, well in advance of city deadlines.

As with extending our STEM programm to test prep and educationalal guidance, we see our STEM program as a perfect fit for supporting students in the planning and execution of their annual science fair projects, through our science fair preparation sessions. In these sessions, students work independently on their projects, with us providing ample workspace, project boards, and access to large format printers for presentation preparation, tools, testing equipment, and raw materials. Our science fair prep sessions extend the fantastic tradition and learning opportunity of science fairs for future scientists and engineers to realize their fullest creative potential.
